Our Story

I’m Michelle and I love Messy Play also known as sensory play! A few years ago, my husband Chris asked me to stop doing the messy play in the house due to the stains, rice under the couch and all-around general mess. Then after a dream I said to Chris, “wouldn’t it be cool to have a place just for messy play?” We began researching and planning and after a few years Make A Mess was finally born October 10th, 2018!

Make A Mess is the first children’s recreational facility in Rhode Island geared exclusively toward sensory play and we couldn’t be more excited to share the fun with everyone! Check out our calendar, pick a session time, and come on in! It is that simple. We want you to love messy play as much as we do so dress appropriately and come Make A Mess!

A Little More About Us

Michelle has been in the field of human services for over ten years working alongside numerous occupational therapists, speech therapists and was also able to work inside numerous classrooms with some of the best teachers. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a minor in interpreting American Sign Language. She has taken all these life experiences and followed her passion for sensory play options that are easier for parents.

Chris obtained a Bachelor of Science with a double major in Economics and Russian Studies, with a minor in Philosophy from The College of Holy Cross. He is a decorated Army War Veteran who currently works for Social Security in Providence. He spent nights and weekends for months constructing our space. His passions are gaming and his family.

Rex has successfully completed Pre-K and feels as if his days at Kindergarten are long. He is a sensory seeker kid and is typically not shy. His passion at the moment is garbage trucks and cement trucks.

Ruthie is definitely working on her Master Mess Maker status. She has currently started Pre-K, following in her big brother’s footsteps. Her favorite mess is probably the glow in the dark oobleck!
